It’s Flowering Branch Season!
4/13/2026
One of the best parts about living through a never-ending winter is that last-day-of-school feeling when the peepers start peeping and the breeze finally warms up. The grass turns electric green and the trees begin to bud. And just like that, it’s flowering branch season.
Magnolia, cherry blossom, dogwood, Eastern redbud, serviceberry, quince. Suddenly the landscape is full of color again. These trees’ pruned branches make some of the most beautiful, easy arrangements you can bring indoors.
Flowering branches add whimsy with their spindly shapes and soft color, and they last for weeks in a vase. With just two or three branches, you can create something simple but striking, perfect for a kitchen island or an entry table that needs a little life.
So how do you make the most of flowering branch season?
Grab your pruners and snip a few small branches from your tree. You won’t need many. Look for branches with plump buds, just starting to open. These will last the longest and give you that slow, unfolding bloom indoors. Be mindful not to take too much from one tree, and always cut at an angle.
In our video, we show a few ways to style branches in different vase shapes. A few quick tips to keep in mind:
Remove any buds or smaller branches that would sit below the water line
Choose a simple vase. Wide mouths give you the most flexibility
Fill the vase generously so branches sit high and feel supported
Let the lines stay loose and a little asymmetrical
For longer-lasting arrangements:
Change the water every 5–7 days
Recut the ends every few days
Remove spent blooms as they fade
A small handful of branches, a little patience, and a vase on your counter. You’ll have Spring indoors!
